

Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Battle of the Seasons is the fifth season of the MTV reality game show, The Challenge (at the time known as Real World/Road Rules Challenge). The season is directly subsequent to Extreme Challenge. Battle of the Seasons premiered in early 2002 and took place in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. In each episode, the cast competed in a challenge, and the top three Real World and top three Road Rules teams would become the "Inner Circle" and have the power to vote off teams. The "Inner Circle" was determined by a cumulative score that would be tallied on a leader board. The final six teams would compete for a final prize worth $300,000.

Hang Man
Two-person teams compete for bragging rights to the best season ever. First up: the teams face their first challenge, "The Hangman" in which each team hangs from a steel girder suspended over water. The team that lasts the longest wins. Eric Nies and Mark Long host.
Hurricane Juliette
Due to an impending hurricane, the day's events are cancelled-- and the hotel's power goes out. A bit stir crazy, the cast throws a toga party, where "the Miz" makes a memorable impression on Sharon. Meanwhile, Belou cares for her baby; and Chadwick and Holly find other things to do.
Who to Vote Off?
The "RW" team makes a pact to split the prize money between all members and then vote off the weaker players. The Roadies, on the other hand, are a team in the midst of dissension. Also: the competition picks up with the Musical Inner Tube Challenge.
Musical Inner-Tube Tango
The "inner-tube" tango continues. Also: the Real World and Road Rules teams hold meetings to decide which contestants get jettisoned.
Vertical Limit
The teams compete in "Vertical Limit", a rope-climbing competition. Also: the Roadies try to become more unified by developing a new scheme for distributing the big money; and the Real Worlders contemplate ousting Stephen.
Slam Dunk
Dissension envelops the Real World team when the inner circle votes off Stephen and Lindsay even though they aren't faring poorly. Also: the teams take part in the "Slam Dunk" challenge, during which they attempt to dunk a basketball while bungee jumping.
Montezuma's Revenge
Tara and Mike attempt to hide their burgeoning relationship from the others to no avail. Also: the teams are hit by "Montezuma's Revenge", which affects almost everyone; and Mark and Eric reveal the next challenge: the Ladder of Death.
Ladder of Doom
The teams tackle the "Ladder of Death" challenge, which will determine the final three teams in each inner circle; Mike and Theo have a verbal spat.
Round 'Em Up
An angry e-mail from Chadwick upsets Holly and divides the "Road Rules" team. Also, the teams take part in a cow-penning competition.
Rush Hour
The teams undertake a "Rush Hour" challenge, which consists of moving cars around a grid in order to get one out.
Hands on Saturn
The teams compete for a car in a competition that sees which can keep their hands or feet on a block of ice longest. Also: the "Miz" makes an appearance.
Sidekick Showdown
The teams take part in a quiz challenge called the "Sidekick Showdown", in which they answer questions about their partners.
Blockhead
The teams face the "blockhead" challenge, which requires them to build a structure from blocks for one of the teammates to stand on. Also: Sean develops a plan for every contestant to leave with part of the "handsome reward," but not everyone goes for it.
Siamese Wrestling
We start off with Mike acting like 'The Miz' and Timmy and Theo just making fun of him. At breakfast, they are told their next mission will be that night and they will be given their outfits shortly. They're also told they will need to be weighed in. From that, they already know that involves some sorta battle, either boxing or wrestling. They are then given their outfits which lets them know that they will be wrestling. Mike is excited saying this is the mission he's been waiting for. They receive a message saying the mission will be at 6pm. They arrive at the mission and discover that they will be doing ""Siamese Wrestling"" where teams will be tied back to back with a corset and then have to wrestle the opposite team in a ring covered in bubbles. A match will have a winner when they can get one of the opposing team member's shoulders down on the mat for 3 seconds. The team that can pin the other team the fastest will win a ""Mild n Wild"" White Water Rafting trip, bikes, cameras,

The day has arrived...tis the day of the Final Mission. Each of the teams wake up nervous yet excited to win the handsome reward. The Road Rules team wonders what the last mission will be, Emily hopes it has nothing to do with luck, cause she doesn't believe it's fair to win $300,000 off luck. They discuss the deals they have, we learn there is a deal between- Emily & Elka Theo & Mike Tara & Danny Timmy & Kelley Dan & Sean The only two not to reach a agreement is Holly & Coral. Coral has tried, but Holly denied cause she believes she'll put 100% in this final mission and take the money home. The vans pick them up bright and early and they arrive at the final mission site. They do a final challenge, a tug-o-war over a pool. Road Rules wins and they each receive a Playstation 2 package.
