Chapter 1
Joventino takes his entourage and teaches his son José Leôncio, still a child, to be a pawn. José Leôncio arrives in Pantanal with his entourage and Joventino decides to stay and buy his land. Joventino and José Leôncio hunt gilts for the farm. Joventino goes alone to hunt the bull. Anacleto demands that José Leôncio pay him and the other pawns.
Chapter 2
Chico and Gil go out to help their neighbor Raimundo, who ends up dead with Maria and Gil's son. Gil kills the supposed owner of his land and his wife swears revenge. José Leôncio leaves in a delegation and Joventino decides to stay on the farm. Joventino says goodbye to José Leôncio, who leaves in a delegation.
Chapter 3
José Leôncio gets involved with Filó. The party returns to the farm and José Leôncio does not find Joventino. Gil and Maria board Eugênio's boat, heading for the Pantanal. Maria and Gil take up residence on José Leôncio's land. José Leôncio goes to talk to Gil, who reacts with hostility. Madeleine has fun at the club and Gustavo is unable to take her home. Antero loses his car in the game.
Chapter 4
Mariana tells Irma that Antero is destroying the family's assets. José Maria scares the jaguar away before it catches Gil. The taxi driver thinks about stealing José Leôncio's money. Madeleine sees the farmer, is dazzled, and thinks about having fun with him. Antero gambles at an underground casino. Gustavo appears at the restaurant to take Madeleine, and José Leôncio confronts him.
Chapter 5
Madeleine dismisses Gustavo. José Leôncio and Madeleine kiss. Mariana and Antero worry about their daughter, who is slow to get home. Madeleine and José Leôncio make love, and Filó has a bad feeling. Antero tries to find his daughter. Mariana scolds Martinha and Teresa for leaving their daughter with a stranger. Gil thinks about abandoning Maria. José Leôncio asks Madeleine to marry him.
Chapter 6
Madeleine accepts the request and Mariana gets angry. Tião and Quim try to convince Filó to participate in the viola circle in the farm shed. José Leôncio tells the story of his father to Madeleine's family. Madeleine tells Irma about her night with José Leôncio. Mariana questions Madeleine about her feelings for her fiance. Irma is enchanted by José Leôncio's stories.
Chapter 7
Mariana catches Antero counting the money he received from Zé Leôncio. Maria tries to drown, but Gil arrives in time to rescue her. Filó is devastated when Zé Leôncio arrives home and introduces Madeleine as his wife. Madeleine doesn't adapt to the routine in the countryside. The carioca tells Filó that she thinks she is pregnant. Zé Leôncio celebrates the news of Madeleine's pregnancy. Young is born.
Chapter 8
Zé Leôncio goes out with the newborn to gallop. As he rides with the baby, he thinks he sees his father. Maria Marruá feels the pain of childbirth. Maria loses Gil and leaves alone, gets into a canoe and sails down the river. Juma is born. Suffering a lot, Maria puts the baby in a canoe and pushes it down the river. The Old Man from Rio watches her, an anaconda walks through the woods.
Chapter 9
Gil talks about Maria becoming a jaguar for Filó, Eugênio and pedestrians. Maria and Gil are happy with Juma. Irma begins to be interested in Gustavo, but he, encouraged by Mariana, travels to the Pantanal after Madeleine. Madeleine is euphoric when she sees Gustavo. Gil and Maria are wanted by two men who arrive in the Pantanal. An anaconda approaches one of them.
Chapter 10
One killer is attacked by the anaconda, while the other sleeps. Filó tries in vain to prevent Madeleine from leaving with Gustavo. The gunman kills Gil and is killed by Maria. Maria buries her husband and swears to her daughter that she will never cry again. Zé Leôncio is shocked when he arrives and finds out about Madeleine's departure. Antero reprimands Madeleine and expels Gustavo. Mariana supports her daughter.
Chapter 11
Zé Leôncio demands that Madeleine hand over the child to him. He leaves with Jove, but the flight to Pantanal doesn't leave until the next day. Madeleine, supported by her parents, files a complaint against her husband. Zé Leôncio gives Jove to Madeleine and says he will pay his son's expenses. Upon returning to Pantanal, Zé Leôncio invites Maria to live with Juma on the farm; she refuses the offer.
Chapter 12
José Leôncio, Filó and Tadeu say goodbye to Quim and Tião. Maria Marruá is bitten by a snake. José Leôncio goes riding with Tadeu. The Old Man of Rio strives to save Maria Marruá's life, which is at risk. Velho do Rio takes care of Juma. Irma arrives in the Pantanal.
Chapter 13
In Pantanal, Irma threatens Filó when she finds out about Tadeu. José Leôncio is surprised to see his sister-in-law. Filó argues with José Leôncio because of Irma. Irma tells José Leôncio that Jove thinks he is dead. Irma seduces José Leôncio. Mariana gets angry when she finds out that Irma went to the Pantanal. Madeleine's sister leaves Pantanal.
Chapter 14
Madeleine demands an explanation from Irma. Jove is happy with the stories about José Leôncio. Antero consoles Irma. Antero has a sudden illness and Jove is terrified. Mariana suffers from Antero’s death. Twenty years pass. José Leôncio hires Tibério to command the pawns. Lúcio tries to convince Muda to forget his revenge against Gil and Maria.
Chapter 15
Madeleine blames Irma for being a bad influence on Joventino. Lúcio gives up helping with Muda's revenge. Tadeu complains about not being chosen to manage the farm. Maria Marruá finds Muda lost in front of her tavern. Muda pretends not to speak and Juma asks her mother not to shoot her. José Leôncio warns Tibério to stay away from Maria Marruá. Lúcio decides to stay in the Pantanal.
Chapter 16
Juma buries his mother. Joventino finds letters from José Leôncio in Irma's room. Irma tries to explain herself to Joventino and encourages the boy to write to his father. Tibério and Tadeu are suspicious of Lúcio's story. Madeleine discovers that Joventino wrote to his father. Juma hears a jaguar near the house and believes it is his mother. Lúcio appears at Juma's house and Muda tells him to leave.
Chapter 17
Lúcio dies. José Leôncio visits Tenório’s farm. Alcides runs through the fields after Guta. José Leôncio is moved by Joventino's letter and Tadeu cannot hide his jealousy. Joventino agrees on the details of his trip to the Pantanal. José Leôncio decides to throw a party to welcome his son. Mariana fears that she will run out of the money she receives from her son-in-law and Irma talks to her nephew.
Chapter 18
José Leôncio orders the saddle that belonged to his father to be cleaned and Tadeu offers to do the job. José Leôncio tells stories about his father around the campfire. Levi tries to intrigue Tadeu with his brother. Joventino calls Irma to go with him to the Pantanal. José Leôncio tells Filó that he doesn't want his son to know that he has a brother. Guta decides to leave and Alcides prepares to go with her.
Chapter 19
Jove faces Alcides to defend Guta, but avoids fighting with the pawn. José Leôncio decides not to interfere in his son's argument and is disappointed with Jove's reaction. Muda is terrified when she hears the Old Man from Rio tell Juma about the death of the gunman who killed Maria Marruá. Guta faces Tenório. José Leôncio talks to Jove.
Chapter 20
Jove tells José Leôncio that he has no intention of living in the Pantanal. Muda is terrified when she hears the Old Man from Rio tell Juma about the death of the gunman who killed Maria Marruá. José Leôncio gets emotional when Jove asks Tibério to play a song that his grandfather liked. Juma threatens Muda when he sees her with the shotgun pointed at the Marruá jaguar. Tadeu takes Jove to Juma's tavern.
Chapter 21
Juma expels Tadeu and Jove. José Leôncio asks Tibério to help his son lose his fear of horses. Jove questions Tadeu about Filó and José Leôncio. Nayara steals her ex-boyfriend's computer hard drive. Tenório questions José Leôncio about dealing with oxen. Jove takes Guta to Juma's barn.
Chapter 22
Guta and Jove leave the river and discover that their clothes have been stolen. Tibério tries to teach Jove to ride. Guta reveals to Tenório that she got involved with José Leôncio's son. Jove hears his father's complaints about him and thinks about returning to Rio de Janeiro.

José Leôncio argues with Tadeu. Filó criticizes Tibério for letting Jove go alone to the nest. Maria asks Tenório to talk to Guta about Jove. The Old Man of the River sees Jove's boat anchored in the nest. Tadeu complains about his brother's presence on the farm. Jove is bitten by a snake.
Chapter 24
Gustavo argues with Madeleine and leaves. The Old Man from Rio asks Juma for help. The Old Man of Rio performs his ritual in Juma's tapera. José Leôncio and the pedestrians look for Jove in the woods. The farmer blames Tiberius for allowing his son to go out alone on a boat and fires the farmhand. Juma takes care of Jove and fears for his death. José Leôncio thinks about how he will break the news to his ex-wife.
Chapter 25
The Old Man of Rio leaves Jove in the care of Juma. José Leôncio goes to Rio de Janeiro to talk to Madeleine. Guta arrives at Juma's barn and asks for Jove. Tiberius meets Jove in Juma's tavern. Juma points the gun at Tiberius and states that no one can know about Jove. Madeleine loses control when she finds out about Jove's disappearance. Tibério returns to the farm, but doesn't tell him about Jove.
Chapter 26
Guta demoralizes Tenório in front of his mother. José Leôncio decides to divorce Madeleine. Jove regains consciousness and Juma is happy. José Leôncio leaves the Novaes mansion. The Old Man from Rio tells Juma that Jove will never leave the Pantanal. Tibério is surprised when Jove says he won't leave the plot. Tadeu tells him that Jove is alive and Zé Leôncio breaks the news to Madeleine's family.

Juma becomes nervous about Jove's proximity and demands that he leave his house. Mariana and Irma get angry with Nayara. José Leôncio decides to look for Jove and the Old Man from Rio. Jove tries to photograph Juma. Guta suffers from the absence of Madeleine's son. Tiberius scolds Jove for not trying to understand his father. Alcides doesn't like it when Guta says he likes Jove.

José Leôncio wants to talk to Tibério. Guta opens up to Jove. Tibério leaves with José Leôncio, and Muda reacts upset. José Leôncio questions Jove about the Old Man from Rio. Maria Bruaca complains about Tenório's trip. Jove provokes José Leôncio. Mariana worries about the family's finances.

Jove provokes José Leôncio. Mariana worries about the family's finances. The Old Man of Rio reprimands Juma for sending Jove away. Tibério questions Muda about his presence in Juma's tapera. Juma doesn't let Jove take his photo. Guta decides to leave with Jove and asks Tadeu for a ride. Muda thinks about carrying out his revenge against Juma. Jove recriminates Tenório when he criticizes Guta.

Juma and Muda are threatened by a hunter. Juma attacks the hunter, who runs away in despair. Jove and Tadeu see a man being attacked by piranhas. Gustavo cooks for Madeleine and Nayara. Jove defends Juma from the pedestrians’ comments. Muda tries to kill Juma. The Old Man of Rio helps Jove find the way to Juma's farm. Zaquieu disrupts Madeleine's live broadcast. Jove looks for Juma.

Jove manages to convince Juma to let him come to his house. Madeleine decides to keep Zaquieu in the mansion. Juma talks about Jove to Muda. Zaquieu helps Madeleine with her new live. Guta feels jealous of Juma and argues with Jove. Nayara quits her job to work with Madeleine. Tadeu sees Guta crying and blames Jove. Jove compares José Leôncio with the Old Man from Rio. Guta gives Tenório an ultimatum.

José Leôncio questions Jove about his interest in Juma. Zaquieu is excited to start working with Madeleine on social media. Tiberius tries to get closer to Muda. Zaquieu overhears Irma arguing with Madeleine about him and is saddened. Tiberius is surprised by Juma's calmness towards Jove. José Leôncio tells Jove to return to Rio de Janeiro.

Jove asks to stay at Juma's place. Filó warns of Jove's disappearance, but José Leôncio pays no attention. Juma protects Jove from the jaguar that prowls the area. Zaquieu arranges a date for Irma. Juma tells José Leôncio that Jove left with the Old Man from Rio. Jove decides to teach Juma to read. Juma is saddened when Jove says he is leaving Pantanal.

Tibério convinces Jove to say goodbye to Juma and return to the farm. Tenório argues with Guta. Maria likes the compliments she receives from Alcides. Jove fights with José Leôncio. Muda thinks about fulfilling his revenge. Jove takes Juma with him to Rio de Janeiro. José Leôncio despairs when he learns that Juma left with Jove. Juma is scared of the city. A jaguar surrounds the farm, and Muda is terrified.

Muda accidentally shoots the Old Man from Rio. Mariana and Irma try to convince Madeleine not to talk to Juma. Tibério takes Muda to José Leôncio's farm and is surprised when she speaks. Juma asks to leave, and Jove gets angry. Trindade explains to Tadeu and Tibério how he saved the Old Man from Rio. José Leôncio is suspicious of Muda's story. Filó worries about Muda and Levi. Tibério tells Thaddeus that he is thinking about marrying Muda. Madeleine tries to convince Jove that her son's relationship with Juma won't work. Gustavo advises Nayara to avoid a direct confrontation with Jove. Jove makes it clear to Nayara that he loves Juma, and gives his ex-girlfriend permission to tell his followers that the two remain together. Levi feels jealous of Muda.
Chapter 39
Tibério protects Muda from Levi. Tadeu hears José Leôncio say that he shouldn't have put him in charge of selling the cattle. Jove seeks out Gustavo to find out the truth about his parents' separation. Jove arrives in time to stop Mariana from sending Juma home and tells his grandmother that they will both return to the Pantanal. Tadeu decides to go with Tibério to Aquidauana to undo the sale of the cattle.

Jove questions the story that Muda tells to justify recovering his voice. José Leôncio comments to Filó that Tadeu has no business acumen. Tadeu feels victorious after managing to cancel the contract for the sale of the cattle. Tenório hides his shady business from Guta. Levi tells Muda that he faces Tiberius because of the love he feels for her. Juma tries to convince Jove to ride a horse.

Trindade tells José Leôncio that the Old Man of Rio could be Joventino. José Leôncio tells Tibério the story he lived with Generosa. The Old Man of Rio observes José Leôncio. Trindade warns Levi about Tibério. Nayara posts a sincere message on her profile, which resonates on the social network. Mariana's employees complain about their salaries. Juma tells Jove that he is free to leave.

The Old Man of Rio calls Jove his grandson. Jove leaves Juma, José Leôncio, Muda and Tibério stunned when he appears galloping on a horse. Jove tells Tadeu that the Old Man from Rio made him lose his fear of riding. Muda reveals her name to Tibério. Tadeu tries to convince Jove to go to the farm.

José Lucas offers a ride to a girl, but ends up being robbed by her and two accomplices. On the farm, Zé Leôncio receives the news of Tião's death, and worries about Quim. Filó is devastated when she is informed that Quim has also died. José Leôncio asks that a tribute be organized to Quim and Tião. Maria Bruaca tries to interest Tenório, who ends up calling his wife Zuleica.

Madeleine accuses Gustavo of having cheated on her with Nayara. Irma doesn't believe it when Madeleine tells her sister that she will win José Leôncio back. Levi confronts Muda. Filó catches Levi with Muda and tells the girl to decide between the pawn and Tibério. Juma asks Jove not to talk about leaving anymore. José Lucas is willing to find his truck and bring justice. Muda makes it clear to Tibério that he doesn't like the pawn.

Muda kisses Levi and reveals his goal of revenge to the pawn. Trindade advises Tibério to send Levi away. During a conversation with Madeleine, Irma ends up confessing to her sister that she slept with José Leôncio. Madeleine accuses Irma of being a traitor. Tadeu defends Guta when he catches Tenório mistreating his own daughter. Tadeu declares his love to Guta and the two end up loving each other.

Maria Bruaca listens to Tenório and Guta's conversation. José Leôncio takes Irma to Juma's tavern to talk to Jove. Filó resents seeing José Leôncio with Irma. Dona Jacutinga is surprised by José Lucas' condition. José Leôncio confesses to Irma that he made a mistake in choosing Madeleine. Tenório finds Maria Bruaca's behavior strange, and Guta celebrates. Juma tells Jove he is afraid he will leave.

Alcides reveals to Juma that he is the son of the gunman who killed her brother, and that he came after Tenório, the same one who deceived Gil and Maria. Dona Jacutinga gives José Lucas some money to help him on his aimless journey. Gustavo and Nayara stay together. Guta is perplexed to see Maria Bruaca leaving on a boat with Alcides. Maria Bruaca kisses Alcides.

Ari tells José Leôncio that Madeleine's plane has disappeared. Guta suspects that Maria Bruaca knows about Tenório's other family. After a week, the wreckage of Madeleine's plane is found. José Leôncio tells Irma that there is no chance of Madeleine surviving. Tadeu and Trindade treat each other with hostility. Guta tries to convince Tenório to tell Maria Bruaca the truth.

Tibério warns Muda about Juma. Túlio admires José Lucas's dexterity with the horn. Maria Bruaca makes it clear to Tenório that she knows about Zuleica's existence. Muda tells the whole truth of her story to Juma. José Lucas tells Túlio that his grandmother told him that they called his father Minas Gerais. José Leôncio is moved when Túlio introduces José Lucas, recognizing the image of his father.

José Lucas recognizes himself in the stories that Túlio tells about José Leôncio's family. Gustavo despairs over Madeleine's death. Jove tells Irma that he loves Juma, but confesses that his place is not limited to life in the tapera. José Leôncio dreams of Madeleine asking for help to leave. Mariana tells Jove that he will have to get a job.

Tibério learns that Levi looked for Muda. Tenório doesn't like knowing that Maria Bruaca went riding with Alcides. José Leôncio is happy with the arrival of Jove and Irma. José Lucas tells Túlio that he will be a pawn. Jove returns to Juma's barn. Tenório doesn't believe he can lose Maria Bruaca. Gustavo decides to take a break from the office and invites Nayara to travel with him without destination.

Jove asks Juma to live in José Leôncio's house as his companion. Filó is upset by José Leôncio's words about Tadeu. Irma confesses that she fears her approach to Trindade. Guta shows interest in knowing about Tenório’s other family. Túlio and José Lucas arrive at the farm to play tricks with the farmhands. Jove tells Juma that the Old Man of Rio is his grandfather.
Chapter 53
Trindade threatens to kill Levi. Muda feels guilty. Trindade stops Juma from killing Levi. Irma is impacted by José Lucas. Túlio dismisses José Lucas from his entourage so the pawn can accept José Leôncio's invitation. Jove orders the pedestrians not to do anything against Levi and to wait for José Leôncio to return. Filó realizes that Juma hasn't slept with Jove yet and is willing to talk to the young woman.
Chapter 54
José Leôncio is happy that José Lucas accepted the job offer. Filó is suspicious of Muda. José Leôncio and José Lucas discover that they are father and son. Tenório decides to help Levi, contradicting Guta. Tadeu doesn't like the attention that José Leôncio gives to José Lucas. Alcides offers to help Levi kill Tenório. José Leôncio reveals to Filó and Irma that José Lucas is his son.
Chapter 55
José Leôncio tells Filó and Irma that José Lucas is his son. Filó feels hurt when José Leôncio questions Tadeu's paternity. Ari tells Jove that Tibério is recovering. Muda is embarrassed to learn that Tibério called for her while he was unwell in the hospital, and Juma becomes suspicious. Tenório catches Maria with Alcides and Levi. Muda reveals to Juma that he released Levi.
Chapter 56
Juma reminds Muda of the words of the Old Man from Rio. Tenório tells Guta that he cannot leave his other three children. Levi gives in to the seduction of Maria Bruaca, who ends up fainting. Tenório feels jealous of his wife. Alcides threatens Levi, wanting to know what the pawn did to his boss. Guta and Zefa feel sorry for Maria Bruaca. Tenório feels victorious when he sees that the woman has resumed her burden.
Chapter 57
Muda tells Juma that he will start his life again in Sarandi. Jove and Tadeu argue, and Jove decides that José Lucas will lead the delegation. Trindade recognizes in José Lucas the authority of a Leôncio. Guta tells his mother that Marcelo was the only person he loved in his life. Tadeu refuses to go out in the delegation organized by Jove. Juma tells Jove that he will not have a son.
Chapter 58
Tadeu feels guilty for letting Jove leave with the entourage. Filó doesn't like that José Leôncio holds Tadeu responsible for Jove leaving with the entourage. Tenório receives a warning not to expose himself due to Federal Revenue inspections. Jove doesn't like José Lucas' decision to return with the herd to the farm. Trindade warns that it was the devil who advised the delegation about the return.
Chapter 59
Filó tells Irma that Guta is not a woman for Tadeu. Juma praises Jove. José Leôncio promises to go with Jove in the delegation to deliver the cattle with his son. Filó and José Leôncio don't like knowing that Tadeu asked Tenório for his blessing to date Guta. Filó argues with José Leôncio. Jove finds Juma's anger towards Guta strange. Ari tells him that Tibério has been released from the hospital. Tadeu meets Levi on Tenório’s farm.
Chapter 60
Tibério asks Muda to reveal Levi's whereabouts. Muda tells Tibério the truth about what took her to the Pantanal. Trindade says he has a chance that Irma will be his. Filó doesn't understand why Juma doesn't like José Lucas. Trindade asks José Lucas when he will admit that he is José Leôncio's son. Trindade tells José Lucas that, if he is a Leôncio, he should find a marruá.
Chapter 61
Jove tells Juma that he will not leave the farm. Juma decides to help José Lucas find a marruá. Tibério promises Muda that he won't go after Levi. Velho do Rio tells Jove that Juma is with José Lucas. Tenório reveals to Alcides that he knows who he is and proposes an agreement against José Leôncio and Levi. Tenório is surprised to learn the identities of Muda and Juma's families.
Chapter 62
Levi is suspicious of Alcides' sudden interest in cattle. The Old Man from Rio reveals to José Lucas that he is a Leôncio. Juma tries to avoid the attraction he feels for José Lucas. Jove is astonished when José Lucas tells him that Juma went hunting with him. José Lucas calls José Leôncio his father, and they both get emotional. Zefa catches Maria Bruaca and Levi together.
Chapter 63
Guta insinuates to Tadeu that José Lucas could be a swindler. Jove tells Juma that he is going to move away from the young woman, so that she can better understand how she feels about José Lucas. Zefa listens to Tenório and Maria Bruaca's conversation. José Leôncio surprises Jove with a guitar party to celebrate his son's birthday. José Leôncio decides that his father's silver saddle should be competed for by his three sons.
Chapter 64
Jove is delighted with the drone he received for his grandmother's birthday. Irma feels Jove's disregard for the dispute proposed by her father. Maria Bruaca reacts to Tenório's insinuations that she would be interested in Levi. José Lucas moves away from Irma after she kisses him and calls him José Leôncio. Muda tells Filó that Tadeu is in Guta's hands.
Chapter 65
José Leôncio states that the first son who shows competence will take over the Pantanal farm. Filó and Irma disagree. Tadeu tells José Lucas that he is thinking about marrying Guta. Juma rejects Jove. Alcides reveals to Levi that Tenório ordered him to kill him in exchange for land in Sarandi. Levi shoots Alcides. Levi lies to Juma, tells him that Tenório killed Alcides and asks for shelter.
Chapter 66
Levi tries to shoot Juma, but the girl disarms him, forcing him to leave the room. José Lucas tells Jove that he should go after Juma. Juma misses Jove. Alcides tells Maria Bruaca that Levi tried to kill him. Trindade helps Jove in training to win the dispute with his brothers. Muda is forced onto a boat with Levi, who threatens her with a knife. Filó and Irma worry about Muda's disappearance. Levi threatens to kill Muda if Juma doesn't give him back his gun. Juma shoots Levi in the arm. Tibério goes after Levi's boat, which suffers an accident. Muda decides to stay with Juma at the bar. Tenório discovers that Zuleica is under investigation by the Federal Revenue Service.

Muda speaks ill of Tenório and Filó shudders at the thought of his son living in the farmer's house. Tadeu confronts José Leôncio and demands payment for his service as a pawn. Mariana insists that she is not going to the Pantanal. Tenório says he won't let Tadeu sleep with Guta before the wedding. José Lucas goes after Juma. Zefa warns Tadeu about Guta and Tenório.

Zuleica is shocked when Marcelo reveals that he knows that Guta is his sister. Jove argues with José Lucas because of Juma, and Tibério prevents the brothers from physically attacking each other. José Lucas tells his father that he will get married soon.

José Lucas is devastated by José Leôncio's absence from his wedding with Érica. José Leôncio ends up responding to Filó's request to host Maria Bruaca, but makes it clear to Alcides that the pawn is abusing his kindness. Joventino and José Leôncio hunt gilts for the farm. Joventino goes alone to hunt the bull. Anacleto demands that José Leôncio pay him and the other pawns.
Chapter 2
Chico and Gil go out to help their neighbor Raimundo, who ends up dead with Maria and Gil's son. Gil kills the supposed owner of his land and his wife swears revenge. José Leôncio leaves in a delegation and Joventino decides to stay on the farm. Joventino says goodbye to José Leôncio, who leaves in a delegation.

José Leôncio gets involved with Filó. The party returns to the farm and José Leôncio does not find Joventino. Gil and Maria board Eugênio's boat, heading for the Pantanal. Maria and Gil take up residence on José Leôncio's land. José Leôncio goes to talk to Gil, who reacts with hostility. Madeleine has fun at the club and Gustavo is unable to take her home. Madeleine dismisses Gustavo. José Leôncio and Madeleine kiss. Mariana and Antero worry about their daughter, who is slow to get home. Madeleine and José Leôncio make love, and Filó has a bad feeling. Antero tries to find his daughter. Mariana scolds Martinha and Teresa for leaving their daughter with a stranger. Gil thinks about abandoning Maria. José Leôncio asks Madeleine to marry him.

Madeleine accepts the request and Mariana gets angry. Tião and Quim try to convince Filó to participate in the viola circle in the farm shed. Mariana catches Antero counting the money he received from Zé Leôncio. Maria tries to drown, but Gil arrives in time to rescue her. Filó is devastated when Zé Leôncio arrives home and introduces Madeleine as his wife. Madeleine doesn't adapt to the routine in the countryside. The carioca tells Filó that she thinks she is pregnant. Zé Leôncio celebrates the news of Madeleine's pregnancy. Young is born.

Zé Leôncio goes out with the newborn to gallop. As he rides with the baby, he thinks he sees his father. Maria Marruá feels the pain of childbirth. Maria loses Gil and leaves alone, gets into a canoe and sails down the river. Juma is born. Suffering a lot, Maria puts the baby in a canoe and pushes it down the river. The Old Man from Rio watches her, an anaconda walks through the woods.

Gil talks about Maria becoming a jaguar for Filó, Eugênio and pedestrians. Maria and Gil are happy with Juma. Irma begins to be interested in Gustavo, but he, encouraged by Mariana, travels to the Pantanal after Madeleine. Madeleine is euphoric when she sees Gustavo. Gil and Maria are wanted by two men who arrive in the Pantanal. An anaconda approaches one of them.
Chapter 10
One killer is attacked by the anaconda, while the other sleeps. Filó tries in vain to prevent Madeleine from leaving with Gustavo. The gunman kills Gil and is killed by Maria. Maria buries her husband and swears to her daughter that she will never cry again. Zé Leôncio is shocked when he arrives and finds out about Madeleine's departure. Antero reprimands Madeleine and expels Gustavo. Mariana supports her daughter.

Zé Leôncio demands that Madeleine hand over the child to him. He leaves with Jove, but the flight to Pantanal doesn't leave until the next day. Madeleine, supported by her parents, files a complaint against her husband. Zé Leôncio gives Jove to Madeleine and says he will pay his son's expenses. Upon returning to Pantanal, Zé Leôncio invites Maria to live with Juma on the farm; she refuses the offer.

José Leôncio, Filó and Tadeu say goodbye to Quim and Tião. Maria Marruá is bitten by a snake. José Leôncio goes riding with Tadeu. The Old Man of Rio strives to save Maria Marruá's life, which is at risk. Velho do Rio takes care of Juma. Irma arrives in the Pantanal.

Mariana suffers from Antero’s death. Twenty years pass. José Leôncio hires Tibério to command the pawns. Lúcio tries to convince Muda to forget his revenge against Gil and Maria.

Juma buries his mother. Joventino finds letters from José Leôncio in Irma's room. Irma tries to explain herself to Joventino and encourages the boy to write to his father. Tibério and Tadeu are suspicious of Lúcio's story. Madeleine discovers that Joventino wrote to his father. Juma hears a jaguar near the house and believes it is his mother. Lúcio appears at Juma's house and Muda tells him to leave.

Lúcio dies. José Leôncio visits Tenório’s farm. Alcides runs through the fields after Guta. José Leôncio is moved by Joventino's letter and Tadeu cannot hide his jealousy. Joventino agrees on the details of his trip to the Pantanal. José Leôncio decides to throw a party to welcome his son. Mariana fears that she will run out of the money she receives from her son-in-law and Irma talks to her nephew.
